Please read to your child daily for 15 minutes. After reading a book you can ask your child to tell you about the story. If he/she is having trouble recalling the story you can ask: -what happened in the story, -about the characters -about the setting, -and his/her favorite part of the book and why.
As an extension, you could ask your child if he/she can relate the story to an experience that he/she has had.
Please make sure the work is in your child’s handwriting. We love when our students have helpers, but make sure they do their own work! * Always use a pencil! Please do not allow your child to use a pen or crayons, unless coloring is part of the assignment. * If your child is not using their best handwriting, please feel free to erase and let them try again! .
Draw a picture in a journal and write a sentence about it. This would be a great time to practice all of the sight words we have learned thus far! If your child is unable to write a sentence, then he/she can label everything on his/her picture by sounding/stretching out words and writing down the letters that he/she hears.
You can also have your child practice; -tying his/her shoes, -writing his/her name (first and last), -writing and recognizing numbers 1-30 (or higher), -and practice writing their ABC's.
